Event Three

Workshop: Lacrosse Stick Maker Alf Jacques

As a boy, like his father, Alf fell in love with lacrosse. A day came when Alf needed a new stick, and buying one demanded more money than he had. Father and son chose to carve one themselves. They felled a hickory tree. They learned by trial and error.Alf makes about 180 a year. The process now demands Alf's full attention -- he retired after spending 24 years as a machinist -- but long years on a plant floor, combined with decades of pounding on a lacrosse field, have worn upon his body.

The event will take place at the Skä•noñh-Great Law of Peace Center on Onondaga Lake Parkway in Liverpool, New York.
